Some of Me Stays in Brooklyn…
My “Is This What You Want” painting is now being used on the Brooklyn Art Project’s membership signup form! That makes me extremely happy.

Back story: The first thing I did when I moved to Brooklyn a few years ago was an internet search for “brooklyn + art”. What came up was BrooklynArtProject.com. It was relatively new at that time. Of COURSE I signed up IMMEDIATELY. I met the owners, Anthony and James Cospito, and we all became friends. Instantly I felt like I was part of something in Brooklyn, part of the art movement, part of a good group of creative people, and no longer some random individual trying to make something happen in NYC alone. I went to their events, met a TON of amazing new and talented friends, and was involved in several group shows with them. When I moved away a month ago, I was silently worried about not being part of BAP anymore. I tried not to think about it, but I was definitely hoping I could still figure out a way to be part of it all, and hoping that they wouldn’t forget all about me.
Since I’ve moved I’ve been invited to a show with Brooklyn Art Project as well as this new feature on their website. So I realize now that location has no effect on our relationship, except that it makes it a bit tougher for me to stop by the studio or drop off/pick up paintings. But to be honest, I’ve never been very good at those things anyway. 😉
NOTE: If you’re an artist, or you just like art, check out brooklynartproject.com. sign up, make friends, collaborate, do things and make stuff!

The Man behind the Graff
People all over NYC know RESKEW, the graffiti writer. Famous, infamous, whatever. He’s definitely known and his tags and pieces can be seen all over the city, Brooklyn, Queens, Manhattan and the Bronx. This piece below was done by Ski (top left), RESKEW (top right) and 2esae (bottom). You can check out more of Ski and 2esae’s art work from my art links. Sweet truck, huh?

Anyway, possibly less people know RESKEW as Miles Wickham, artist. He’s good people, a real talented artist and my friend. AND I’m co-curating his first solo show this Thursday in the East Village. So I thought I’d just give him mad props on my blog and let you all in on it.
Here’s the link to the event. Check it out, and of course, if you’re in the NYC area this Thursday stop by Sapphire Lounge! Meet the man, the myth, the legend…

Reasons to like NYC
I started a series. Don’t know how far I’ll go with it, but I can come up with hundreds of reasons to like New York, so I could theoretically take it pretty far.
For now here are two…
Reason number 1

Reason number 2 aka “Masked Self Portrait”

Long Overdue Props
I know I usually post about something having to do with me. My art, my shows, whatever. I mean, it is MY blog after all. But today I feel like talking about other people. Of course it will still be MY opinions about other people. 😉
Anyway…I have some artist friends I’ve made pretty recently, and I’m real proud to know them. So it’s time to tell the world. They have just mad, endless talent. And I have been fortunate enough to hang out with them, paint with them, learn things, watch them work, AND I have some of their pieces on my walls. So yeah, I’m pretty much lucky all around. They’re really well known already, but just in case you aren’t one of the enlightened many who know about them, let me introduce you to AVONE, NOBODY, 2ESAE and SKI.
This piece is by avone. And I OWN it. You should be very jealous.

This one is a nobody(tmnk)/avone collaboration. i *heart* that rust for reals.

Here’s a collabo piece by ski mst, avone, tmnk and 2esae. And one that I dig. like a LOT.

Here’s me holding up a piece that i own, in the spot in Soho where they sell their work. 2esae, avone and ski mst collabo:

Their spot in Soho is corner of Prince and Greene…you know…so you can go out there and buy up all their paintings. Do it. You know you want to.
Thanks to avone for the photos for this post. I yanked em off his flickr page cuz I’m way too lazy to take all those photos myself. And thanks to all four of you for your inspiration, your friendship and for just making the world a more beautiful place. <3

Newest Mural
Wow, I just realized I never even blogged about this. So I got a cool gig a couple months back. I was asked to paint the entire Bagel Store, on Bedford and N. 1st in Brooklyn. It was at a time that I was looking to paint larger than I ever had, so the timing couldn’t have been better. I still want to do a few more tweaks to it, which I will when it stops raining, snowing, sleeting and hailing outside! But here it is so far…
Right side…

Left of door…

When I make any drastic changes or additions to it I’ll let ya know.

Back from Art Basel
First of all, I’d like to say I think Miami is the most effed up city on Earth. Fashion-wise it’s ridiculous. Women there dress like really wealthy hookers in outfits so tiny you could swallow them with one sip of water. “Hi, my name is Tisha and this is my cervix.” The best way I can explain it is sparkly on the outside, dark and evil on the inside. It’s clearly a city fueled by cocaine, which explains why it’s slow during the day and amped up from about 11 pm until sunrise. So before I say anything else I’d just like to get the fashion faux pas out of the way so I can move on to the reason I went to Miami in the first place. Here you go…

Ok, so that said, I had an amazing time in Miami and I’m sure I’ll never forget it. I met artists who I’ve wanted to meet for a long time. I saw old friends and made new ones. The art was fantastic. And it was everywhere. Most of the pics I’m going to show you are from the OUTSIDES of buildings, not even the exhibits! It was dizzying. “Fountain” was one of the main satellite shows during Art Basel. It’s the show I exhibited in, and the collection of artists and art on display there was unbelievable. I went there every day and saw new and inspiring things each time. And I got excited to go back there each day, too. Here are a few shots from the week…
This is Nick Kuszyk. I watched him throw this piece up in about 10 minutes. Awesome.

I’m sure this one took considerably longer. I must have looked at this one 30 times. It was my favorite corner of Fountain to hang out in.

This stencil was already on the wall outside Fountain when I got there. For those of you who don’t know, Blek Le Rat is basically the father of street art stencils. I didn’t get to meet him, but it was just nice knowing he was around…somewhere.

This is Le Mac. I kept looking as close up as I could and saying “how the f*ck did he do that???” Amazing artist. Seriously amazing.

So great to finally meet Toofly and even get to see her paint live. Good times.

The gang.

Aight, I’ve got more pics and stories for ya, but it’s past my bedtime. You’ll just have to wait for episode 2.
